My nickname is “Princess.” Please let me explain, it was a nickname given to me by my father, and he is usually the only one that calls me Princess. When I was younger he called me Princess a lot, not so much now. But when he does, my heart skips a beat. I love it!
As children we all had nicknames: Joe was Chief, Cathy was Peaches, Barb was Boots, Teresa was TR, and Patti Ann, well she was the baby and she had tons of nicknames!! Since we all had nicknames I never thought of my name any more special then my siblings. We each knew that our nicknames were gifts from our Dad and that was what made them special. So I never lived out any illusions of being a “Princess” in the terms of the Walt Disney scenarios, it was my special name for me from my Dad, and when he called me Princess I knew I was special.
The name “Princess” and “Queen” have been given to me by others. Sometimes in jest, other times because I have played the role. For those times that I have lorded myself over others, I beg forgiveness. It is not a pleasant site. I much rather receive the name Princess from a playful perspective.
There is someone else that calls me Princess…God. In fact God calls all females Princesses, and males Princes. I am God’s Princess and I am royalty in God’s Kingdom. In 1 Peter 2:9 it reads, “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. “
My position, your position as royalty is named and we are told what we are to do as Princesses and Princes of God’s Kingdom….declare God’s praises! Tell the stories of redemption, and grace. Be the one who represents God in your royal gown of righteousness and peace. Seriously…how cool is this!! We are all Princess and Princes! God says so!
When my Dad calls me Princess I know that I am special. When my God calls me Princess I know who I am. I am so very blessed. Thank you Dad! Thank you God!
