Here I am on the Pastor’s Blog for the first time in a very long time. I have been using an old and ridiculous excuse…”I don’t know how to use it.” (Said with a very pitiful whine) Our techno guy, Patrick, has been very patient with me. He has never pressured me but just says things like…”How can I help you with the blog Anne?” “You know Anne, more people visit the blog on the website more than any other place.” “Do you have anything for the blog Anne?” He really has been way too nice.
So after much consternation I am here. For the next 6 weeks I am going to be writing daily, yes I said daily, about the Book, Not a Fan, Becoming a completely Committed Follower of Jesus, written by Kyle Idleman.
The back of the book reads as follows:
“The dictionary defines a fan as “an enthusiastic admirer.” Fans want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires sacrifice. Fans may be fine with repeating a prayer, attending church on the weekend, and slapping a Jesus fish on their bumpers. But is that really the extent of the relationship Jesus wants?
Jesus was never interested in having admirers. It is not fans he is looking for.”
At first when I picked up this book and read the cover I thought, “What a great book for the members of my congregation.” So I set the book aside and waited for the “right “time to present the book. But, as the book sat on my shelf, it kept calling to me in a variety of ways. More and more people were talking about the book. God was placing the word “fan” in front of me. It just kept showing up. So I said, “All right God, you must want me to bring this to my congregation, I am ready.” Well that is not what God had in mind. God told me in no uncertain terms that the book was for me and that I was to share with others what I was learning from the book. So here I am.
I have not read the book in preparation for this blog. I will be reading this book over the next 6 weeks as I blog. We will be taking this journey together and I am looking forward to what God is ready to teach me. I am ready to hear what you have to say as well. Don’t leave me out here alone!!
So lets begin…I will be reading and ready to blog tomorrow…join me! Anne
