We had a great Heritage Homecoming Celebration on June 5, 2016. Friends and family came together to celebrate our 197th birthday as a church on the 117th anniversary of the dedication of our building. Kenny Fields welcomed everyone and over 100 people joined the celebration. Rev. Janice Smith shared a song. Pastor April’s sermon called us all to “Quit Our Meanness & Follow The Ways of Christ” and included Sam Jones’ wording and text of a sermon delivered in 1889 in remembrance of the dedication service he preached at Fields Chapel in 1899. Our morning service included celebrating the confirmation of our youths and holy communion.
The morning service and music was excellently led by our youth. We enjoyed a filling “dinner on the grounds” and fellowship. The program continued in the afternoon with speakers sharing about the ministries we partner with, powerful interactive prayer sessions inspired by each of the ministries, special guest musicians, and songs. We wrapped up this wonderful day with songs from youth from The Music On Wheels Academy followed by a call to invest in the youth of today and a time of praying with the youth in groups of two or three. The day concluded with a power filled hymn and song of worship. Our thanks to God and each person the played a role. We look forward to celebrating birthday 198 next year! Plan to join us the first Sunday in June!
